Description

Trimbach Alsace Riesling Sélection De Vieilles Vignes was born as a tribute to history and the land. In Ribeauvillé, in the heart of Alsace, the Trimbach family has been cultivating vines since the 17th century. This cuvée comes from vines over 60 and 70 years old, planted on three exceptional sites: Rosacker and Muehlforst in Hunawihr, on the limestone soils of the Muschelkalk, and Vorderer Haguenau in Ribeauvillé, called "the little Geisberg" because of its similarity to this great terroir. These south and south-east facing slopes enjoy a dry and sunny microclimate, ideal for the Riesling to mature slowly and develop its maximum mineral expression.

Winemaking

The Trimbach Alsace Riesling Sélection De Vieilles Vignes is harvested by hand, as late as the year allows, aiming for perfect ripeness without losing freshness. Pressing is delicate, in a pneumatic press. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks for three to four weeks at controlled temperatures. There is no malolactic fermentation or ageing on lees, and no oak ageing: everything is focused on preserving precision, tension and purity. Trimbach Alsace Riesling Sélection De Vieilles Vignes is vinified completely dry, with no residual sugar, to bring out the character of the soil and the old vines.

Taste

On the nose, Trimbach Alsace Riesling Sélection De Vieilles Vignes displays refined aromas: ripe citrus, lemon peel, pink grapefruit, dried apricot and a marked mineral background - wet stone, chalk, and a faint echo of hydrocarbon, typical of classic Riesling. There are also hints of light honey and dried white flowers. The palate is dry, direct, with a broad entry but tightened by precise, sharp acidity. Notes of green apple, candied lemon, citrus zest and subtle almond melt into a firm, almost saline texture. The finish is long, refreshing, with a lingering minerality reminiscent of the wine's chalky origin. A Riesling for those who appreciate the purity, tension, and depth that only old vines and great soils can offer.
