Description
On the single plot of El Peret, 210 metres above sea level and just six kilometres from the Mediterranean, a wine that defies convention is born. Sicus Cartoixà Marí is the result of a radically honest vision of wine: minimum intervention, maximum expression of origin. Its creator, Eduard Pié, decided to place his full trust in the grape and the soil, with no make-up or artifice. Thus, with 21 years of history in the vineyard and a philosophy of living and sustainable viticulture, this wine is a declaration of principles.
Cartoixà Marí - the indigenous variety also known as Xarel.lo Vermell -is grown on well-drained, moderately basic, limestone soils, where the sea breeze moderates the temperatures and provides an invisible but palpable salinity. The influence of the sea and thermal moderation help to preserve the natural acidity, essential in a wine of barely 9% alcohol, as subtle as it is expressive.
Winemaking
After the grapes are harvested by hand, the clusters that will give life to Sicus Cartoixà Marí are placed whole in tanks, where they macerate by infusion for three months. They are not pressed; the must flows by gravity, respecting the integrity of the fruit as much as possible. This unusual decision makes it possible to capture the most delicate aspects of Sicus Cartoixà Marí: its fine structure, its ethereal profile and its seabed. The wine then ages for seven months in stainless steel tanks, where it settles, without oxidation, until it reaches its definitive expression: a pure, clean wine, deeply connected with its environment.
Taste
Sicus Cartoixà Marí opens with an austere but precise nose: hints of limestone, sea mist and dried citrus peel. There is no fruity exuberance, but a saline minerality that speaks more of wind and rock than of pulp. On the palate, the wine unfolds lightly, almost buoyant, but with a taut, lively edge. There are notes of pink grapefruit, bitter orange peel, white tea and a touch of crisp apple. The acidity is vibrant, linear, and leaves a saline, slightly tannic aftertaste that invites you to keep drinking. It is a wine that seduces not by volume, but by precision: tense, electric, with that refined rusticity reminiscent of salty wind and dry earth. A coastal wine, deep and subtle, where each sip is a postcard of the most honest and mineral Mediterranean.
