Description

From the rolling hillsides of the O Rosal Valley, where the Miño River kisses the Galician lands before disappearing into the Atlantic, Porta do Miño Aguardiente de Orujo is born, a crystalline expression of the tradition and soul of Albariño. In this privileged corner of the Rías Baixas, the family behind this eau-de-vie has been cultivating the vineyards with respect for generations, understanding that each vine holds secrets that only time and patience can reveal.

The idea of distilling this eau-de-vie did not come about as a by-product, but as an act of homage to the raw material: Albariño pomace, as aromatic as it is powerful, as expressive as it is delicate. Once the vinification process is finished, the pomace is carefully collected, almost like someone who collects relics. Distillation then becomes a ritual.

Winemaking

The production process of Porta do Miño Aguardiente de Orujo follows the traditional Galician method of heads, hearts and tails, where only the heart - the intermediate fraction of the distillation - is worthy of being bottled. This is where the purity, character and elegance of the eau-de-vie lie. Fermentation is slow and controlled, respecting the times dictated by the grapes. After distillation, the eau-de-vie is stabilised at a low temperature to preserve all its aromatic expressiveness. Finally, Porta do Miño Aguardiente de Orujo undergoes a strict analytical control before bottling, ensuring irreproachable quality.

Taste

To the eye, Porta do Miño Aguardiente de Orujo is clean, bright and crystalline, like a high mountain stream. On the nose, the eau-de-vie displays a surprising aromatic range: ripe white fruit, lively citrus notes, a delicate floral echo reminiscent of white rose petals, and subtle herbal nuances that bring freshness. But it is in the background that the Albariño grape comes to the fore, with its unmistakable varietal character, rounding off an elegant and harmonious whole.

On the palate, the entry is fine, silky, with a well-integrated acidity. The palate is enveloping, leaving a trail of aromatic persistence in the retronasal where floral and fruity notes reappear, accompanied by a slight minerality. A very well-balanced eau-de-vie, ideal for closing a meal with a Galician identity or as the protagonist of a long, contemplative after-dinner drink.
