Description
Winemaker Jean-François Coutelou, owner of the Mas Coutelou winery, was one of the first producers in France to obtain organic wine certification in 1987.
Since then, he has been striving to produce the best natural wines in the region, such as the organic red wine Mas Coutelou En Commun.
Winemaking
Due to frost and hail, a large part of the harvest was lost, but the winemaker of the Clos de Jarres winery helped Jeff Coutelou by giving him part of her harvest. This wine is made from Cariñena, Cinsault and Syrah grapes, which are grown organically, respecting the soil and its cycles, avoiding the use of herbicides and other chemicals.
Alcoholic fermentation is spontaneous with indigenous yeasts. Then the red wine Mas Coutelou En Commun is aged in concrete and fibreglass tanks. Finally, it is bottled unfiltered and clarified with eggs from the estate's hens. In addition, a minimum amount of sulphites is added.
Taste
The natural wine Mas Coutelou En Commun, on the nose leaves aromas of forest fruits and floral, herbal notes, as well as damp earth. It is a special cuvée that is fluid, vibrant and fresh. This wine has soft tannins, a well-balanced citric acidity and a long finish.
