Description
La Garnacha Salvaje del Moncayo is a small treasure hidden in the heart of Moncayo, a region where Garnacha grows in freedom, unhurried, shaped by wind and time. Behind this wine is Proyecto Garnachas de España, a passionate initiative of Vintae that seeks to vindicate this variety, often forgotten, but with an extraordinary potential.
La Garnacha Salvaje del Moncayo is a single varietal 100% Garnacha that comes from vineyards located at the confluence of Navarra and Aragón, where the vines grow at different altitudes, some up to 800 metres. Imagine these old vines resisting in a stony soil, with slate and pebbles that give them that special character. This is not just any Garnacha, it is one that has learned to survive and, along the way, to offer us a pure and authentic expression of its terroir.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand, with the calmness of someone who understands that every cluster counts. The grapes are then fermented in stainless steel tanks at less than 25ºC, preserving all the freshness of the fruit. Maceration lasts about two weeks, just enough time to extract colour and structure without losing elegance. Finally, the wine rests for five months in French oak barrels, a subtle touch that rounds out its character without robbing the Garnacha of its prominence.
Taste
The first thing that grabs you about La Garnacha Salvaje del Moncayo is its garnet cherry colour, bright, lively, like a sunset in the mountains. Then, as you bring it closer to the nose, the aromas of red fruit, wild berries, a whisper of undergrowth appear. But the best comes on the palate: strawberries, raspberries and that juicy, fresh sensation that invites you to keep drinking.
