Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2022 Grüner Veltliner Ried Käferberg 1ÖTW is deep, pure, intense and complex on the saline nose that is reminiscent of crushed limestone rocks. Full-bodied and rich on the palate, with fine tannins and charming lemon bitters on the finish, this is a dense and mouth-filling yet still young Käferberg that benefits from a large glass and certainly further bottle aging. This is one of the greater Veltliners of the vintage, but it will further improve with bottle age. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in March 2024.

Description
Bründlmayer Ried Käferberg Grüner Veltliner is a vibrant expression of Grüner Veltliner, a grape variety indigenous to Austria. This wine comes from the Kamptal DAC region, specifically from the Langenloiser Käferberg vineyard.
This vineyard is located at an altitude between 310 and 345 metres above sea level, offering a warm, sheltered climate with a south-easterly orientation. The soil of this region is unique, composed of marine clay and calcareous deposits, similar to the famous Château Petrus in Pomerol.
This particularity of the soil contributes to the density of the wine, although it is renowned for being a difficult terroir to work. The grapes were harvested at the end of October, with a yield of 2,500 kg per hectare and an alcohol content of 13%.
Winemaking
The must ferments in used Austrian oak barrels (2 to 3 years old) with a capacity of 300 litres. Subsequently, for ageing, it is racked into 2,500 litre oak casks, also 2 to 3 years old.
Taste
Bründlmayer Ried Käferberg Grüner Veltliner has an unrivalled freshness, revealing a subtle but impressive varietal bouquet. In it, you can perceive notes of hay flowers, yeast and fresh cuts of fruit such as apple, followed by hints of quince, citrus peel, aniseed and a spicy touch of ginger. On the palate, it is super fresh and dry, with a medium body, balanced and densely woven, accompanied by a fine-grained texture. The fruity notes persist, attached to fine, still-developing phenols, giving the wine remarkable agility and persistence, as well as tremendous ageing potential.
This wine is not only a delight on its own, but is also the perfect accompaniment to exotic dishes such as curries and stir-fries, as well as to typical Austrian dishes such as Viennese escalope and roast meats such as goose, duck or pork.
