Description
Avan Viñedos Viejos is a powerful and refined expression of the Ribera del Duero terroir, crafted with dedication by Juan Manuel Burgos at his Avan winery. This wine, made from 100% Tinta del País (a local variant of the Tempranillo grape), captures the essence of vineyards between 60 and 80 years old, planted by the winemaker's grandfather. The age of these vineyards brings a unique depth and concentration, the product of vines that have survived time and variable conditions, gaining deep roots that absorb the richness of the soil.
The vineyards that give life to this wine are located in selected plots in the Ribera del Duero, where each is vinified independently to capture the characteristics of its terroir. The soils are varied, contributing to a particular structure and complexity in the wine. Clay and limestone soils predominate, ideal for growing Tinta del País, giving the wine a mineral base and firm structure. These soils, rich in minerals and with good drainage, force the roots to go deep, extracting nutrients that are then reflected in the character of the wine.
Winemaking
The winemaking of Avan Viñedos Viejos is carried out with a careful, artisanal approach. After a manual harvest, the bunches are carefully selected in the winery, where each plot is vinified separately. This method allows the identity of each soil to be preserved and, finally, a coupage is made before ageing. The wine is matured for 18 months in new extra-fine grain French oak barrels, a type of wood that provides a smooth texture and notes of cocoa and vanilla without overshadowing the fruity and mineral character of the wine.
Taste
Avan Viñedos Viejoshas an intense and opaque ruby colour that seduces from the first moment. On the nose, it displays aromas of ripe black fruits, cocoa, liquorice and a mineral touch. The palate is fresh, well-balanced and elegant, with well-integrated tannins and a persistence that invites further tasting. Its silky structure and rounded passage give it a sophisticated and enveloping character, ideal to accompany intense and tasty meals. This wine is, without a doubt, a recommendation for those who love intense and deep sensory experiences.
