The unbottled sample of the 2022 Viña El Pisón feels expressive, aromatic and open. It was in 500-liter barrels until it finished malolactic and then spent five months in an oak foudre to finish the élevage. It has more red fruit and flowers, and it's gentler, more approachable than the 2021. There is finesse and elegance here.

Description
Viña El Pisón is a red wine produced by Bodega Artadi. It is a drink pleasing to the palate with the incomparable characteristics of the 100% Tempranillo grape variety, the most prestigious red grape of La Rioja in Spain.
These grapes are selected from a unique vineyard in Laguardia at an altitude of 480 m above sea level, located on deep clay-limestone soils, which bear witness to the union between man, grape and earth.
This terroir is the Viña el Pisón de La Rioja, from which this magnificent and exquisite red wine takes its name. This vineyard was planted more than 50 years ago, has a very limited production and tends to sell out quickly.
Gastronomically, it is the ideal accompaniment to red meat stews and baked sea bass.
Elaboration
The grapes are harvested and selected by hand in the vineyard and transported to the winery in 15 kg crates.
Once in the winery, vinification is carried out in open wooden vats with cold maceration for 24-48 hours and fermentation for 10-12 days with two treadings per day and a small pumping over.
Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels and ageing takes place for a minimum of 15 months in new French oak barrels from the best cooperages.

Viña El Pisón brings to mind the aroma of fine fruits and minerals, complex and delicate spicy sequences and tannins with enveloping and caressing volumes.
