Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2016 Garnacha Tintorera is from richer soils with more clay, and all the Garnacha Tintorera is old vines. The wine is balanced and fresh, with very good acidity. This is evolving at a very slow pace, still young and lively! Mateo tells me this is different from the wine I tasted last time... He tells me this reminds him of the 2009, the first one he released. This has a Rhône twist, moderate alcohol (12%) and slow and long aging.

Description
There are wines that have a story to tell. And then there is Quinta da Muradella, a project that exudes passion, patience and a deep respect for the land. In Monterrei, a small but fascinating wine region in Galicia, José Luis Mateo works his vineyards with an almost artisanal philosophy. For decades, he has been rescuing native varieties and exploring the potential of a territory that, although it often goes unnoticed, produces wines with an overwhelming personality.
Quinta da Muradella Garnacha Tintorera comes from old vines , more than 70 years old, planted on mainly granitic and clay soils. These conditions give the wine its structure and freshness, allowing the fruit to shine without artifice. Monterrei's climate is continental, with dry summers and cold winters, which helps to maintain the acidity and prolong the life of the wine.
Winemaking
In the winery, José Luis Mateo's philosophy is simple: to intervene as little as possible so that Quinta da Muradella Garnacha Tintorera speaks for itself. Fermentation is carried out with whole bunches of grapes in open wooden vats, which provides greater complexity and a fresh mouthfeel. The wine is then aged for 13 months in used French oak barrels, allowing for a slow evolution without the wood stealing the limelight from the fruit. Finally, it is bottled without filtering or fining, preserving all its authenticity.
Taste
When you pour Quinta da Muradella Garnacha Tintorera into the glass, the first impression is pure energy. Intense red fruit, a touch of spice, that slight minerality that reminds you of the earth after the rain. On the palate, it is juicy but with nerve, with a vibrant acidity that makes it tremendously drinkable. Fine, elegant tannins, well integrated, leaving a long finish that invites another sip. It is a wine that does not shout, but has character.
To enjoy it, pair it with grilled meats, spicy stews or even a good board of cured cheeses. Or simply open it without haste, let it breathe and enjoy every nuance. Because Quinta da Muradella Garnacha Tintorera is not a wine to just drink. It is a wine to discover.
