Description
The Luis Pérez Tintilla Balbaína wine is a unique expression of Andalusian viticulture, standing out for its meticulous winemaking and ageing. This wine is a single varietal, made from 100% Tintilla, a variety characterised by its high acidity and low tannin content, ideal for the production of red wines in semi-warm climates.
Winemaking
The viticulture of this wine is centred in the vineyard "El Calderón del Obispo" in Balbaina, on Barajuelas and Tosca Cerrada soils. The grapes are harvested by hand at night, in small boxes of no more than 14 kilos, to guarantee the quality of the grapes. A significant part of the grapes (60%) is vinified without destemming in stainless steel tanks and open barrels for 30 days. This process, intentionally static with little pumping over, seeks to respect the softness and elegance of the variety. Subsequently, the wine is aged for approximately 12 months in 6-year old wood, followed by a few months in tank before bottling.
Taste
Luis Pérez Tintilla Balbaína stands out for its depth and complexity. It has a spicy black fruit profile, such as black cherry, balanced with a saline freshness. This characteristic is amplified by the addition of 10% co-fermented Palomino Fino. The Atlantic influence of Pago de Balbaina is reflected in this balance between depth of fruit and freshness, creating a wine that is both expressive and authentically Andalusian.
