Description
The story of Louis Roederer & Philippe Starck Brut Nature Rosé, conceived with Philippe Starck, is the fruit of an unconventional collaboration between a visionary winemaker and a free creator. Frédéric Rouzaud, at the head of the legendary Champagne house, was looking for an uncontrived, radically honest expression of terroir. Starck, with his aesthetic and disruptive sensibility, proposed not to intervene, to let the land speak. Thus was born this wine without dosage, bold and naked, born of a dialogue between the natural and the creative.
The grapes come from the stony clay-limestone soils of Cumières, one of the winery's historic vineyards. There, the Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Meunier ripen to their full potential, favoured by a mild and luminous climate. Respect for biodiversity and the principles of biodynamics add depth and tension, transforming each vintage into a unique interpretation of the landscape.
Winemaking
The vinification of Louis Roederer & Philippe Starck Brut Nature Rosé begins with a short maceration of the Pinot Noir to extract its colour and texture without excess. The final blend masterfully combines the three varieties, varying slightly according to the vintage. Part of the wine is fermented in wood, the rest in stainless steel. Approximately 30% undergoes malolactic fermentation, providing smoothness and roundness without losing freshness. Ageing on the lees lasts approximately 4 years before disgorgement, refining the bubbles and shaping a delicate, enveloping texture, followed by at least 6 months of cellar rest after disgorgement to integrate all the nuances harmoniously. With no added sugar (dosage: 0 g/l), the balance is achieved solely through the precision of the coupage and the purity of the grapes.
Taste
From the first taste, Louis Roederer & Philippe Starck Brut Nature Rosé is pure and direct. On the nose, notes of fresh red fruit (raspberry, cherry), juicy citrus (blood orange, pink grapefruit) and a subtle background of spice, toast and almond emerge. There is something almost saline, reminiscent of iodine and hot stone. On the palate, it is tense and vibrant, with a very fine mousse that caresses without detracting from its energy. The acidity is lively, sharp, but tamed by ripe, precise fruit. The finish is long, dry, with mineral echoes and lingering freshness.
More than a rosé Champagne, it is a declaration of principles: no make-up, no concessions, pure character. Ideal with seafood dishes, sushi or as a solitary reflection by the sea.
