Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The NV Manzanilla Fina Miraflores Baja is sourced from Bodegas del Río, an 'almacenista' (a sort of wholesaler that focuses on maturation of young wines) used mainly by La Gitana and Lustau. Located in Sanlúcar, very close to the sea/river, Bodegas del Río has their own vineyards and produces their wines from their vines in the vineyard Casilla Verde in the Pago Miraflores Baja. It's a classical Manzanilla fermented in stainless steel and then put in old casks (De La Riva has signed an agreement to control a number of casks). This is a young and very Sanlúcar Manzanilla, with the sapidity going to the front of the mouth. It has the diesel-like touch and the spicy and ash-like notes, with the sharp palate of Miraflores with no bitterness in the back of the palate; it stays at the front of the mouth, the tip of the tongue. The back label includes the bottling date, and there are 3,500 bottles in the first saca from April 2019. Great value Manzanilla. This is a wine that should be more widely available, as they are able to do 7,000+ bottles per year.
Between 6ºC and 8ºC
Biological ageing under veil of flor for 3.5 years using the criaderas and soleras system in American oak casks.
The wine La Riva Manzanilla Miraflores Baja is a wine belonging to the winery's range, made from the Palomino grape variety, which comes from the Finca Casilla Verde located in the coastal Sanlúcar de Sanlúcar de Barrameda estate of Miraflores Baja.
The wine La Riva Manzanilla Miraflores Baja is a manzanilla that is classified as intense, denoting in its aroma the presence of citrus and nuts, maintaining on the palate the subtlety of this type of beverage.
La Riva Manzanilla Miraflores Baja is a wine that follows the philosophy of Bodega La Riva, by ensuring that all the production stages of this and the other wines in its catalogue follow artisanal techniques that guarantee the natural flavour of the grapes.
During the harvesting phase, the process is 100% handmade, in order to bring the grapes to the winery in the optimum state of ripeness. After the must is extracted, it is fermented in stainless steel barrels, and then placed in casks to age for 3 years.
On the palate, La Riva Manzanilla Miraflores Baja has light herbaceous hints accompanied by saline tones, very characteristic of this winery's wines. On the palate, it lingers between subtle and fresh.
A wine with a bitter finish
The wine La Riva Manzanilla Miraflores Baja is a wine that, despite its subtlety, leaves a semi-bitter sensation in the mouth, contributed by the barrels where the wine is aged. It is also dry and very complex, thanks to the diversity of flavours that converge to make it unique. It is perfect for pairing with spicy dishes and seafood.
