Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The regular 2022 Blue Label (there's also a special cuvée in 2022) was still matured in new oak, but they used less toast and barrels from coopers that marked the wine less. It was produced with a blend of 60% Monastrell, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Syrah and had an élevage of 18 months. It's aromatic, spicy and toasty, with notes of vanilla and cinnamon, ripe berries and aromatic herbs. It's ripe at 15.5% alcohol, with a pH of 3.71, 5.5 grams of acidity and three grams of residual sugar. It's medium to full-bodied with abundant, fine-grained tannins and some oak-related flavors. 28,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2024.

Features

Description

Juan Gil Blue Label is a red wine from the Jumilla DO, made mainly from Monastrell grapes (predominant variety), combined with Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. These vines come from vineyards located at 700 metres above sea level, which gives them an optimal ripening, benefited by the climate of the region.

Winemaking

The wine is fermented separately in stainless steel tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation in French and American oak barrels. The wine is aged for 18 months in these barrels, which adds complexity and structure to the wine.

Taste

On the nose, Juan Gil Blue Label stands out for its complexity, with deep and mineral aromas reminiscent of red fruits, accompanied by spicy nuances such as vanilla and pepper. On the palate, it is a robust and balanced wine, with juicy tannins from the Monastrell and the more austere structure of the Cabernet Sauvignon, achieving a perfect synergy between the two. It has a velvety texture and a long, elegant finish, ideal to accompany red meats or game stews.
In short, Juan Gil Blue Label is a wine with great ageing potential, perfect for those who want to enjoy a complex and well-structured wine.

  • 27/10/22 Juan Gil Blue Label 2020 I am very fussy. I love the Napa Reds at about £60. This is just as good. Heavenly for £26!

  • 18/08/20 Juan Gil Blue Label 2018 My friend first introduced me to this wine a couple of years ago. I absolutley love it. So beautifully smooth and warming on the palate. You can't get this from regular shops in the U.K so I was really happy to find it on the Gourmet Hunters website and I think the price is really competitive too.
  • 20/12/18 Juan Gil Blue Label 2016 Everyone I have invited this wine to has been lyrical.
  • 23/11/22 Juan Gil Blue Label 2020 alles gut
Es passt also doch!
  • 21/12/20 Juan Gil Blue Label 2018 Ein ganz großartiger Wein!
  • 21/05/20 Juan Gil Blue Label 2017 Ich liebe diesen Wein. Feiner Geschmack, empfehlenswert.
