The 2014 Els Escurçons showed quite similar to the 2013. This wine is not matured in barrel, it's only aged in amphora and glass demijohns. The 2014 was bottled a little earlier than the 2013. This Garnacha vineyard is one of the highest in Priorat, located at 550-600 meters altitude, and is consistently harvested late. This is high altitude Garnacha with great freshness and potential (the wine was very recently bottled, and it might be a little closed because of the operation). This is delicate and fresh and keeps changing in the glass. At times I preferred the 2013 and then changed my mind towards 2014, and then went back to liking 2013 again... At the end of the day, they are probably at a very similar quality level. There are 3,100 bottles produced.

Description

Els Escurçons is a red wine made from 100% Garnacha Tinta by the Mas Martinet Viticultors winery under the D.O.Q. Priorat appellation. Priorat.
This wine is made exclusively with grapes from the vineyard that bears the same name and is located 600 metres above sea level on soils of llicorella ferruginosa (weathered slatewith iron and feldspar).

Winemaking

The grapes are harvested by hand with grape selection in the vineyard. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts in different containers, wooden vats and cement tanks, together with their lees and with very gentle and brief washings for approximately one month.
The wine is aged in 60-litre amphorae and demijohns for 12 months, with a combination of percentages depending on the vintage. Bottling is done without any kind of clarification.

Taste

Els Escurçons is a fluid red wine with fruity aromas and spicy notes. On the palate it has a powerful, fresh entry with a very pleasant, sweet and pleasant aftertaste. It is a medium-bodied wine with adequate acidity and intensity. The finish is elegant and long.
