Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2020 Clos Mogador comes from a very challenging vintage in Priorat, a year with lots of rain and some fungus problems that are very unusual in the zone, which is usually very healthy. They bought a further four hectares so they could keep the volume despite the difficulties with mildew. The wine is more tannic and a little astringent despite now having any time in barrels anymore; starting this year, it matured exclusively in 2,000-liter oak foudre, and the impact of the wood is milder. A very good result, it's powerful but has good balance. The vintage is more tannic, and the quality of the tannins is not the same as those from 2019, as they couldn't wait for better tannins because of the risk of losing acidity and freshness. 26,000 bottles produced.

Description
Clos Mogador is a red wine made with the varieties Garnacha, Cariñena, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah by the Clos Mogador winery in the region of Catalonia, D.O.Q. Priorat. Priorat
The grapes used to make this wine come from a small estate in Gratallops (Priorat) acquired in 1978.
The terraces where the vineyards for Clos Mogador wine are located form a gigantic natural amphitheatre, bathed at its feet by the Siurana river and situated at an altitude of 450 metres above sea level.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand at the optimum point of ripeness and transported in 10-kilogram boxes. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts. The evolution of the process is controlled daily and the temperature is monitored to ensure that it does not reach excessive limits. This process is carried out in foudres or in 300-litre open barrels. The maceration is long and takes between 4 and 5 weeks.
The ageing process takes 20 months in 300-litre oak barrels (70% new and 30% second year) from the forests of Europe.
Taste
Clos Mogador is a red wine with intense fruity aromas. In the mouth it is powerful but controlled, with a very good and integrated acidity . It is long, with refined tannins, fruity notes and a mineral background.
A complex and elegant wine.
Clos Mogador is the star of the Clos Mogador winery, a masterpiece of René Barbier and one of the best wines of Priorat.
This red wine with its characteristic aromas is a faithful transmitter of the personality of the terroir; a great wine for cellaring, to be enjoyed unhurriedly.
In the gastronomic field, it is a particularly recommendable wine for a nice gift and as an accompaniment to roast meat or game dishes.
