Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Disgorged in November 2019 with 4.5 grams per liter dosage, the NV Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Heurtebise derives from a parcel defined by iron-rich sand. Offering up aromas of pear, orange oil, beeswax, fresh pastry and white flowers, it's medium to full-bodied, pillowy and incisive, with tangy acids, fine concentration and a long, penetrating finish. This release is entirely from the 2016 vintage.

Description
Chartogne Taillet Heurtebise Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut is an exceptional champagne that comes from the Heurtebise estate, located on a windy plateau. This wine is made mainly from 83% Chardonnay, accompanied by 12% Pinot Noir and 5% Meunier. The vines, planted between 1972 and 2010, are planted on sandstone soils that are less permeable than the neighbouring chalk soils, with a southern exposure.
The winemaking is curious and adaptive, responding to climatic variations. In wet years, high foliage and aeration are favoured to consume soil water through plant evapotranspiration and wind. In contrast, in dry years, foliage is pruned to limit rapid water uptake. This careful vineyard management reflects a commitment to the authentic expression of terroir in every bottle.
Winemaking
The ageing of Chartogne Taillet Heurtebise Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut wines takes place in 228-litre oak barrels, which accommodate the natural tension of these wines. This process lasts from 9 to 18 months, in Burgundian barrels that provide a non-tannic sweetness, enveloping the wine's distinctive minerality. The wine is then bottled for a second fermentation in bottle for the formation of foam during a period of 48 months where the wine rests on its own lees in racks. The final dosage is 3 grams per litre of sugar (Extra Brut).
Taste
Chartogne Taillet Heurtebise Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut is characterised by a bright, dazzling yellow colour with green highlights. On the palate, it offers an angular and vibrant texture, with a salivating mid and upper palate that defines this Champagne. The consistency is crystalline and at times tannic, with a sandstone minerality that adds nerve and tension to the wine.
