Description
Domaine Bott-Geyl is one of those historic wineries in Alsace where tradition is not preserved out of mere inertia, but out of deep conviction. The Bott family has been cultivating vines since the end of the 18th century, but it was Jean-Christophe Bott who took the decisive step that would define the modern style of the house. In the late 1990s he progressively converted all the vineyards to organic cultivation and later to biodynamic viticulture, a decision that at the time seemed risky in the region. His philosophy was clear: to bring the soils back to life so that the wine would accurately express the landscape.
Bott-Geyl Riesling Les Éléments was born precisely from this idea. This cuvée brings together different plots located around historic villages such as Riquewihr, Zellenberg and Ribeauvillé. The vines, aged between 15 and 40 years, grow on a mosaic of calcareous, loamy and sandy soils. This type of terroir gives the wine a marked minerality and a tension very characteristic of the great Riesling winesof Alsace. The region's continental climate, protected by the Vosges mountain range, allows for slow, dry ripening, ideal for preserving the variety's natural acidity while developing precise, elegant aromas.
Winemaking
Bott-Geyl Riesling Les Éléments is harvested by hand to preserve the integrity of the bunches and to allow a rigorous selection directly in the vineyard. The grapes arrive whole at the winery and are gently pressed to obtain a clean, delicate must.
Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks, where the temperature is carefully controlled to maintain the aromatic purity of the Riesling. After fermentation, the wine remains on its fine lees for several months, gaining complexity and a slightly broader texture without losing freshness or precision. Finally, Bott-Geyl Riesling Les Éléments is bottled with minimal intervention to preserve the most authentic expression of the terroir.
Taste
Bott-Geyl Riesling Les Éléments is vibrant and crystalline on the nose. Aromas of freshly grated lemon, lime and grapefruit appear first, followed by notes of green apple and crisp pear. With some air, more delicate nuances of white flowers and white peach emerge.
On the palate the wine enters with energy and precision. Lively, refreshing acidity sweeps across the palate with a taut, linear sensation. Citrus fruit mingles with stone fruit notes and a pronounced mineral wine sensation, evoking wet stone and limestone.
The finish is long, clean and slightly saline, leaving a fresh and elegant sensation. An elegant, precise and very gastronomic Riesling that clearly reflects the character of the Alsatian terroir.
