Description
Andreas Tscheppe Blaue Libelle Plus is a white wine made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc in the Südsteiermark region in southern Austria, very close to the Slovenian border. The winery, managed by Andreas and Elisabeth Tscheppe, is known for its focus on biodynamics and respect for the environment. The vineyards, located at altitudes between 400 and 500 metres, have poor, chalky soils that give the wine a great minerality. Plots such as Czamillonberg and Krepskogel bring unique characteristics to this wine, which is harvested by hand.
Winemaking
Andreas Tscheppe Blaue Libelle Plus is fermented spontaneously, without the addition of artificial yeasts, and agedfor 18 months in oakbarrels, 50% of which are new and 50% second-use. No filtration or sulphites are added, maintaining the pure essence of the wine. It should be noted that due to a slow fermentation, it was decided to bottle the wine with a slight residual sugar content (14 g/l), which makes it a richer and more complex version, known as "Plus".
Taste
On the nose, Andreas Tscheppe Blaue Libelle Plus stands out for its aromatic intensity, with notes of tropical fruits, citrus fruits and a mineral background reflecting the chalky soil of the vineyards. On the palate, it is a medium-bodied wine, with a silky texture thanks to its residual sugar content, which is perfectly balanced by a vibrant acidity. Ripe fruit flavours of peach and passion fruit mingle with herbal hints and a lingering mineral note, providing a long, complex finish. It is an ideal wine for those looking for a different experience in the world of Sauvignon Blanc, with a unique structure and character.
