Buy Wine from Viñedos Hermanos Hernáiz
Wineries with a unique history have always caused great admiration among wine connoisseurs. Finca la Emperatriz is no exception, as its origins blend in time to meet one of the great figures of French history. And its wines are as unique as they are delicious.
Origin
The vineyard has been in operation since the end of the 19th century, when it belonged to Eugénie de Montijo, wife of Napoleon III and Empress of France. One of the distinctive characteristics of this plantation is its high quality, which had already received a distinction in 1878, during the Universal Exhibition.
However, how did it become one of the most emblematic of the Rioja Alavesa?
The answer is quite simple: because Empress Eugenie had no descendants, her estate was inherited by her sister Francisca, wife of Jacobo Fritz-James, Duke of Alba. The estate would therefore go to one of the Duke's four sons.
When the fief was divided, a team of Basque businessmen acquired the property, which would later be bought by the Count of Torremúzquiz. Of course, this was until 1996, when the Hernáiz family finally arrived. The rest, as the saying goes, is history.
Where it is located
The winery is located on the road to Santo Domingo Haro, in La Rioja, specifically in Los Baños de La Rioja. In this area, the Vitis vinifera crops enjoy a privileged environment thanks to the Mediterranean and continental climate.
Moreover, the boulder soil is ideal for the grapes to develop their properties to the maximum. This guarantees the characteristic bouquet in each of its products, making them a winning bet.
Who are the Hernáiz Brothers
Eduardo and Víctor are the two great architects behind this winery and the ones who have been committed to the development of their three wine projects. Their trajectory dates back to 1996 and since then they have consolidated their position, becoming one of the benchmarks par excellence in the production of wines in Rioja Alavesa.
One of the most outstanding aspects of their work is the dedication they put into the cultivation of the vines. In principle, each plot where the vines are planted is covered with boulders, which allows the vineyard to develop unique organoleptic characteristics as well as facilitating drainage and balancing humidity.
Furthermore, as good visionaries, the Hernáiz brothers have focused on developing two different varieties: the plot wines, where the characteristic terroir of La Rioja can be appreciated, and a much more balanced classic coupage line that includes grapes from different plots.
Wines with an imperial tradition
Each of the products produced by the Finca La Emperatriz winery are characterised by their refined flavour and unique nuances, capable of pleasing even the most demanding palates. Moreover, their balanced acidity and well-developed tannins have made this brand one of the most appreciated by connoisseurs.
If you would like to try one of their wines, we recommend the following options:
El Jardín de la Emperatriz White Wine.
El Jardín de la Emperatriz Red Wine.
Finca La Emperatriz Singular White Vineyard.
What are you waiting for to try some of these delicacies? You will love them!
