Château Giscours story begins back in 1552 when Pierre de Lhomme, a wealthy textile merchant, purchased the castle and turned it into a wonderful manor where true wine treasures where produced at the very centre of Bordeaux. The castle was built originally as a defence tower. In 1995, the property was purchased by celebrated Dutch businessman Eric Albada Jelgersma, who started managing the maison and recovered the elegant essence of these wines awarded as Troisième crú classé in the official classification of 1855.
Château Giscours is placed at Labarde commune and produces its wines under AOC Margaux; this designation of origin is settled at Médoc department and counts with eminent wineries such as Château Margaux and Châteaux Palmer to name just a few. Giscours has 80 vineyard hectares with the traditional varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc on the thinnest soils of Médoc, rich in coarse gravel, which allow roots to penetrate deeply and obtain the necessary water.
At Château Giscours they only produce two wines: Château Giscours is the first one and the second is called La Sirene de Giscours. Both of them are produced following the same pattern. A cautious bet on modern American market tastes is done, therefore wines tend to have a classy black fruits in liquor concentration with cedar notes and undergrowth and black truffle nuances from the noble woods that fit Bordeaux wines so well.
