Buy Wine with Carmenere
Carmenère is an ancient variety original from Gironde, whose first vineyards appeared in the Bergerac region. It is vigorous but not much fruitful; it has small clusters with deep blue berries, also small and with late ripening. Carmenère variety is likely to suffer millerandage and root rot.
At the beginning of the 18th century, Carmenère variety was grown in the Médoc region (Bordeaux), but it was abandoned due to the phylloxera pest. However, there are still some wines as Château Clerc Millon, in the appellation Pauillac that use this variety in their blends.
If it is harvested too early, Carmenère wines can have an intense herbal aroma, similar to red pepper. Its tasting notes are: red fruits, black pepper and sometimes even tomatoes, blackberries, blueberries, chocolate, coffee and soy sauce if harvest is carried out when the grape is ripened.
