Brancellao variety is, most provably, from the Douro or Dâo regions in Portugal. It is a vigorous variety but sensitive to powdery mildew. Its clusters are medium-sized and not much dense; berries are also average with thin skin. Brancellao variety has mid-budding and early ripening.
Brancellao wines are typically fresh, with low extract but moderate to high alcoholic content, delicate in flavours, so its intake is recommended when recently bottled. In Spain, Antonio Cajide uses the Brancellao variety in the Sameiras Tinto cuvée.
