Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2014 Viña Almate la Olmera is pure Tempranillo from a vineyard planted in 1986, located in the village of Bocos de Duero on alluvial and limestone soils at 756 meters altitude. The clusters were handpicked the first week of October and fermented full with indigenous yeasts in 2,000-liter vats, followed by one year in 500-liter French oak barrels. This was my preferred wine among the single-vineyard reds this year. It has a rustic Tempranillo profile with earthy and berry fruit, and a pinch of spices. The palate revealed some dusty tannins but better balance than the others. As most wines here, it's quite ripe and with some noticeable alcohol, rustic tannins and some astringency. 1,000 bottles were filled in January 2016.
Between 14ºC and 16ºC
Aged in French oak barrels.
