Tasting the single-vineyard wine from the poorest soils in the property is always a special moment. The 2017 El Ciruelo fermented in a concrete vat with full clusters and indigenous yeasts and had a maceration of 25 days. The wine matured in used 500-liter oak barrels for 11 months. This wine always combines elegance with power; it has structure but seems to be evolving a little faster than the 2016. It's a little more approachable, but it also has quite a lot of tannin. This is a wine that improves in bottle, and I'm sure this will be better with one more year in bottle. 4,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2018.
