Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
the 2017 Reina de los Deseos is a single-vineyard Garnacha produced with the grapes from 70-year-old, organically farmed vines planted on a terraced vineyard at 950 meters in altitude on granite soils typical of Gredos. It fermented with a long maceration at controlled temperature in oak vats with indigenous yeasts and 100% full clusters. It matured in well-seasoned French oak barrels for 14 months. It has a Mediterranean touch, with notes of aromatic herbs and is very spicy (cola nut, nutmeg), with notes of soy sauce, a honeyed touch and some development à la Pignan. The nose is complex and quite exuberant, with a touch of cherries in liqueur (minus the heat). The palate has lots of tension, with volume and no fissures; it's seamless, and there's nothing that would make you think of a warm year. This is more compact, while La Mujer Cañón is more ethereal, but none of them show any heat. 1,378 bottles, 90 magnums and five double magnums produced. It was bottled in May 2019.
