The 2019 Leirana Areas de Arra has a golden color and a nose with notes of caramel and honey, ripe and voluptuous, with hints of pollen and honeysuckle. It has 13.6% alcohol, higher than any of the other whites. It comes from a place with sandy soils where the grapes ripen quite quickly. It fermented in a 500-liter oak barrel, where it matured for one year. It has a different profile from the other Albariño whites, with a different sensation, more ripeness and development. 600 bottles were filled in August 2020.

Fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged for 12 months in 1,500-litre French oak foudres. It remains in the bottle for 2 years before being marketed.
Description
Leirana Areas de Arra is a white wine made from Albariño grapes of the D.O. Rías Baixas by the Bodega Forjas de Salnés. These grapes grow near the sea, at less than 100 metres, on fine sandy soils. Some 15% of the vines were replanted 20 years ago.
Winemaking
The winemaking process begins with maceration of the destemmed grapes in a press for three hours. The must then migrates to a new 1500 litre François Frères barrel for spontaneous fermentation. This wine ferments in a 500-litre oak barrel and matures for a year.
Taste
Leirana Areas de Arra has a complex and attractive flavour profile. On the nose, notes of caramel and honey can be perceived, accompanied by a hint of pollen and honeysuckle. On the palate, the wine is light-bodied with medium acidity, offering a refreshing but also slightly velvety sensation. The main flavours include lemon, citrus, melon, and minerals, with a hint of sea breeze reinforcing its character as an excellent summer wine. The finish is dynamic and pleasantly saline, leaving a lasting and refreshing impression.
In short, Leirana Areas de Arra is a unique wine, carefully crafted and with a very marked expression of the terroir, making it an outstanding choice among the wines of the Rías Baixas DO.
