The 2022 La Danza del Viento La Isilla is even paler than the superb and ethereal 2021 that I tasted next to it. There's half a degree more alcohol (14%), but the wine comes through as very harmonious, perhaps more on the fruit side than floral. The grapes were picked on September 10 (only three days earlier than 2021, perhaps because of the larger crop), but the tannins are clearly more rugged than those from the super elegant 2021. It's very good, but this needs more time and/or more powerful food. In 2022, the grapes were blocked, and it clearly affected the result. 600 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2024.

Description

La Danza del Viento La Isilla is a crianza red wine that represents a unique expression of viticulture and oenology. Produced by the 4 Monos winery, this wine is a tribute to tradition and to the land it comes from.
Made mainly from Garnacha grapes and a small proportion of Cariñena, La Danza del Viento La Isilla is distinguished by its origin in a vineyard over 90 years old, located at an altitude of 860 metres above sea level in Cadalso de los Vidrios. This terroir, characterised by granite soils decomposed into sand, is fundamental to give the wine its unique profile.

Winemaking

Once harvested, the grapes undergo a cold maceration process with whole bunches. This technique, which includes the stems, skins and seeds, contributes to the tannic structure of the wine and accentuates its aromatic profile. Cold maceration allows a gentle extraction of colour and aromas, preserving the fresh and fruity characteristics of the grapes.
Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts, i.e. yeasts found naturally on the grape skins and in the vineyard environment. This spontaneous fermentation approach is fundamental to expressing the terroir of the wine, as these native yeasts contribute unique flavours and aromas that cannot be replicated with commercial yeasts.
After fermentation, the wine is aged for 12 months in 300-litre French oak barrels. These carefully selected barrels are fundamental to the ageing process, as they allow the wine to evolve slowly and gradually, providing subtle wood and oxygenation notes that refine its structure and flavour. The choice of used barrels ensures that the character of the oak does not dominate the wine's profile, but complements and enhances its natural qualities.

La Danza del Viento La Isilla is a wine that enchants with its balance and delicacy. It has a heady aromatic profile, with notes of flowers, wild berries and herbs. Its bouquet is perfumed and elegant, revealing layers of complexity as it opens in the glass.
On the palate, it is notable for its very fine tannins and a texture that reflects the chalky characteristics of granite. The wine is savoury and lingering, offering a taste experience that lingers. The combination of freshness, length and a subtle touch of minerality makes it an irresistible wine, highly appreciated by connoisseurs.
