Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2022 Granito Cru Alvarinho comes from the 3.5 hectares of 20- to 25-year-old vines of Alvarinho that he has in Melgaço, the classical zone in Vinho Verde for the variety. The juice from the pressing of the full clusters was let to settle and fermented in oval foudres of different sizes, where it matured and then was fine-tuned in stainless steel for another six months. It has more of a Mediterranean nose, with aromatic herbs and dry hay notes, but it keeps the floral varietal character and a more austere palate, with fine tannins and a dry finish. It was a warmer year, better for whites than for reds, but the wines are more immediate, with slightly higher ripeness, 12.5% alcohol, but keeping good freshness and balance. Like all of the whites, it goes through full malolactic and spends two winters in the winery before it's bottled. 13,300 bottles and 160 magnums. It was bottled in April 2024.

Winemaking
Alcoholic fermentation and ageing in new and used foudres (large tun) of 1,000 and 2,000 litres for 9 months. Partial malolactic fermentation.
Description
Granito Cru Alvarinho does not come from a single vineyard, but is a single varietal Alvarinho soil wine, conceived as a clear expression of terroir and place. It is made from sustainably grown grapes and vinified using only spontaneous fermentation and indigenous yeasts.
Winemaking
It all starts with a gentle pressing of the destemmed and crushed grapes without the addition of sulphur and without any maceration. After a period of cold decanting for 48 hours, in order to eliminate the coarse particles, the fermentation and ageing process begins, which is carried out in two used oval vats of 1,000 litres and a new oval vat of 2,000 litres, all made of Eastern European oak. Fermentation is carried out for 4 months with complete malolactic fermentation. Total ageing in barrels is 9 months in the presence of lees, without stirring.
Taste
The wine has a bright yellow colour. On the nose, it offers mineral aromas of lemon zest, green apple, lemongrass and sea shells. On the palate, it surprises with its impressive weight combined with laser-focused acidity. Incisive flavours of lemon, green peach, green apple and green mango are at the core, accompanied by lingering mineral notes.
With an alcohol content of 12.5%, this wine is ideal for pairing with raw or grilled oysters, shellfish and grilled snapper.
