Description
Barranco Oscuro 1368 Cerro Las Monjas is a red wine from the region of Granada, Spain, produced by the Barranco Oscuro winery. This wine comes from the Cerro Las Monjas estate, located in La Contraviesa, at an altitude of between 1280 and 1368 metres above sea level. The grape varieties used in its production are Garnacha, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, in equal parts. The winery follows organic farming practices, although it is not officially certified.
Winemaking
The vinification of Barranco Oscuro 1368 Cerro Las Monjas includes a complete destemming and spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel tanks without temperature control, followed by a maceration of seven to ten days. The wine is then aged for three years in used oak barrels and refined for four months in tank before bottling in January. No additives are added and only light filtration is carried out.
Taste
Barranco Oscuro 1368 Cerro Las Monjas has a cherry red colour with a garnet rim indicating its evolution. On the nose, it offers an aromatic complexity with notes of leather, toast and violets. On the palate, it is characterised by its warmth and silky texture, although with marked tannins that provide a present but balanced astringency. Bitter, serious flavours are perceived, with hints of liquorice and black fruits of the forest. The aftertaste is long and dark, highlighting the predominance of Garnacha and Syrah, which interact harmoniously with the wood.
