Description
Bardos Villálvaro is the jewel in Ribera del Duero's oenological crown, a wine that pays homage to the region's untamed character. Produced by Bodegas Bardos, part of the Vintae project founded in 2004, it focuses on capturing the essence of the highest and most challenging vineyards in the Páramo de Corcos and Ribera Soriana. This area, located at an altitude of over 1,000 metres, offers an exceptional environment for viticulture, with vines ranging in age from 80 to over 140 years old, many of them pre-phylloxera. The vineyards, bathed in a climate of contrasts, thrive on sandy, well-drained soils with a clay-ferrous substratum at a depth of one metre that maintains humidity even in the driest seasons.
Elaboration
The blend that gives life to Bardos Villálvaro is composed mainly of Tinta Fina (Tempranillo), accompanied by small proportions of Garnacha and Albillo Mayor, among other indigenous varieties. This combination results in a red wine that reflects tradition and innovation in the production of high mountain wines. The fermentation process is carried out in a 9,000 kg vat at 28 °C for three weeks, followed by malolactic fermentation in a 5,000 litre vat of European oak. Finally, the wine rests for 12 months in the same vat, which gives it a unique elegance.
Taste
Bardos Villálvaro stands out for its visual intensity, with cherry red tones and violet hues that reflect its youth and freshness. As the glass approaches, the nose is filled with a complex bouquet that combines the fragrance of jasmine blossom with citrus notes of tangy grapefruit and an explosion of red fruit. A balsamic touch of eucalyptus adds freshness and sophistication. On the palate, the experience is harmonious, with a delicate and vibrant entry. The wine unfolds with exceptional balance, leaving a trace of elegance and fresh fruit, underlining its high altitude vineyard origin and meticulous winemaking that encapsulates modern tradition.
Bardos Moradillo de RoaBardosMoradillo de Roa is a wine that embodies the purest essence of Ribera del Duero. Produced by the prestigious Bodega Bardos, this wine is the result of the efforts of a team passionate about highlighting the tradition and authenticity of Castilian wines. The winery is located in the challenging Páramo de Corcos, a wine region that rises over 900 metres above sea level, characterised by its extreme climate and pebble soils with underlying layers of clay. These characteristics contribute to the freshness and uniqueness of the wines.
Bardos Moradillo de Roa is made mainly with the Tinta Fina variety (Tempranillo), and to a lesser extent is complemented with Garnacha, Albillo Mayor, Bobal, Monastrell and Graciano. The vineyards, which are between 80 and 90 years old, are located in small plots in Moradillo de Roa, a village with a deep winemaking tradition that is home to some of the oldest winery districts in the region.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand to preserve the integrity of the grapes, which then undergo a three-week fermentation and maceration process at 28ºC in a 9,000 kg vat. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in 5,000-litre European oak vats, and the wine is aged for 12 months in the same vats, providing complexity and structure.
Taste
Bardos Moradillo de Roa is a wine with a robust and captivating personality. In the glass, it shows a deep cherry red colour with dark glints on the rim, witnesses of its ageing. The nose displays an intense combination of ripe fruit, with notes of cocoa and dark chocolate, with a background evoking orange peel and aromatic herbs.
On the palate, the wine offers a gentle and sweet entry, unfolding with a firm and enveloping structure, typical of Tinta Fina. The oak notes enrich its character, providing a sensation of warmth and roundness. The combination of the pebbles and the moorland climate translates into a special warmth that accompanies each sip, leaving a lingering, elegant aftertaste that invites further enjoyment.
This is a wine that tells a story in every glass, a story that connects the drinker with the land, the time and the passion of those who make it.
