Description
Arzuaga Gran Reserva is an iconic wine from Ribera del Duero, produced by Bodegas Arzuaga Navarro, founded in the 1990s and located in the prestigious municipality of Quintanilla de Onésimo, Valladolid. It is made from 90% Tempranillo, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, which come from the La Planta estate, at an altitude of 900 metres above sea level. The Tempranillo vineyards, some of them centuries old, are located in clay-limestone soils and offer very low yields, which contributes to the great concentration of flavours in the wine.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand in boxes of a maximum of 10 kg, ensuring the integrity of the grapes. After careful selection and destemming, the must is fermented in wooden vats. Subsequently, malolactic fermentation takes place in new French oak barrels, where the wine is aged for a total period of 38 to 60 months, with only two additional rackings to guarantee its purity and complexity.
Taste
Arzuaga Gran Reserva stands out for its balance and depth. It has a clean, bright garnet red colour. On the nose, it is extremely complex, with aromas of ripe and stewed fruit, accompanied by notes of spices such as cedar and cinnamon, hints of leather and soft memories of roasted coffee. On the palate, it is enveloping, silky, with well-polished tannins and perfectly balanced acidity, giving it a long, lingering finish.
