Description
Altaroses is a red wine from the Celler Joan d'Anguer winery, currently run by the brothers Joan and Josep Anguera, who have worked hard on the production of various examples, combining tradition with the most modern technologies.
Although the winery uses different grape varieties, such as Syrah, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carignan, the Altaroses wine is made from 100% Grenache grapes, with a minimum use of chemical products that alter the natural flavour of the fruit.
Winemaking
For the production of Altaroses wine, the grapes are hand-picked to ensure that the fruit reaches the winery in an optimum state of ripeness. They are then trodden without destemming to extract the must, which undergoes alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel containers.
After that, the wine is fermented in cement vats, and then the wine is divided in a ratio of 80:20, and the larger quantity is aged for 12 months. The remaining 20% is aged in used oak barrels for the same length of time. At the end of the process, both are blended and bottled unfiltered.
Taste
Altaroses wine is characterised by a very fine red wine with clear aromas combined with spices and fine lactic notes. Its tannins are intense and it has a delicate acidity which, together with its bitter tones, make it a surprising and original wine.
