Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
There are two new reds that should appear with name places, including the 2014 Sousón Castagaia, which was produced with the local red grape Sousón from five-year-old plants. It was foot trodden and fermented with full clusters, indigenous grapes and an élevage of 18 months in 225-liter French barrique. According to Fernando Algueira, Sousón is the most tannic of the red Galician grapes, and the wine is quite dark colored, akin to a Garnacha Tintorera. There is high ripeness, despite the fact that the wine is only 12.5% alcohol, so it might need to be picked a little earlier. The palate is somehow earthy, with some dusty tannins. This needs to be domesticated. 1,200 bottles were filled in August 2016.
