There is one new Rosé, from a classical zone for such wines, Cigales, even if the wine called 2015 Rosado Clásico de Valladolid Parcela Sobrecasa is (like all the wines here) sold with the generic Vino de la Tierra de Castilla León appellation. It's produced with Tempranillo plus some 20% of other grapes (Verdejo, Palomino and Garnacha) from a vineyard that names the wine that was planted back in 1932 at 850 meters altitude on stony and alluvial soils. It was hand harvested, destemmed, crushed and fermented without skin contact in a 2,000-liter chestnut wood vat and some French oak barriques with indigenous yeasts. It didn't go through malolactic fermentation (but has a relatively high pH, 3.5) and was bottled after six months into 5,000 bottles in June 2016. It has a little appealing brownish color and a blurry nose with notes of clay and earth, with clear oxidative notes. The palate is consistent with what you find in the nose, really not up to what you should expect.
Alfredo Maestro Sobrecasa Rosado Clásico is a rosé wine that has been crafted mostly from Tempranillo and a minimal contribution of some white varieties by the Alfredo Maestro winery in Peñafiel in Valladolid, under the Castilla y León appellation.
The grapes come from a single vineyard of 4 hectares called Sobrecasa planted in 1932, located in Cigales, which was planted more than 80 years ago at an altitude of 850 metres above sea level on soils with alluvial gravel (cascajos).
Harvesting is carried out manually, selecting the grapes in the vineyard and in the winery, on a selection table. Once the grapes are destemmed and crushed by direct pressing, they are fermented in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts at a controlled temperature, between 15 and 20 °C.
At the end of fermentation, the wine is left to settle for 18 months in 2,000-litre chestnut vats. It is not clarified or filtered.
Alfredo Maestro Sobrecasa Rosado Clásico is a tasty, aromatic and fresh rosé wine. The nose is quite complex, with intense fruity aromas. In the mouth it is easy to drink and very dynamic.
A delicious, delicate and fragrant rosé wine.
Alfredo Maestro is a winemaker of single vineyard wines that go completely against regional stereotypes.
This is a unique, very pleasant rosé wine, also full of complexity, due to the vines that have more than 80 years of average life, a real gem from a young master winemaker!
Alfredo Maestro Sobrecasa Rosé Classic is an original gastronomic wine, perfect to be used in a romantic dinner with vegetables, pasta and sushi, among others.
And you, haven't you tried this wonderful wine from the Alfredo Maestro winery yet? You'll love it!
