I also tasted the recently bottled 2021 Nai, which matured in oak foudre for a little longer than the 2020 that I tasted next to it. There was some creaminess from the oak, rustic and earthy sensations and ripe fruit.

Description
Albamar NAI is a red wine from the D.O. Ribeira Sacra, made entirely from the Mencía grape variety (100%). This wine comes from a particular plot in Ferreira de Pantón, located in one of the warmest areas of the Ribeira Sacra, near the river Cabe. This climate, combined with granite and slate soils, gives the wine a mineral and structured personality, distinctive characteristics of this region. The vines from which the Albamar NAI comes are among the oldest in the area, grown on slopes of up to 75% inclination, which confers greater concentration and richness to the grapes.
The Albamar winery, run by Xurxo Alba Padín since 2006, is a family winery in Galicia that has been making Atlantic wines for more than 25 years, based on methods that respect both tradition and innovation in viticulture. Albamar is renowned for its meticulous care of the vineyards and a focus on minimal intervention.
Winemaking
To maintain and enhance the natural acidity of the Mencía grape, the grapes are destemmed and undergo a prolonged maceration of 20 days, during which alcoholic fermentation begins in stainless steel tanks. Once this phase is completed, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in the same tank, which softens the acidity and gives it a creamier texture. Subsequently, the Albamar NAI is transferred to a large 1,300-litre French oak foudre, where it matures for approximately 8 months. This use of large volume oak allows the wine to develop complexity without excessive oak influence, maintaining its fresh and fruity character.
Taste
In tasting, Albamar NAI presents an aromatic profile that highlights notes of ripe red fruit, with hints of cherry and a touch of compote balanced with an earthy minerality. On the palate, this wine shows a medium structure with silky tannins and a well-integrated acidity that gives it freshness and a long finish. Its body and volume make it a versatile and elegant red wine, with a persistence that allows you to enjoy its character both on its own and accompanied by intense dishes, such as legume stews, roasted red meats or artisan cured meats.
