Buy Wine from André Beaufort
The Champagne André Beaufort winery is a jewel in the heart of an exceptional region: Champagne. It is located in Ambonnay, one of the 17 Grands Crus classés of the Champagne region. This winery has its roots in the Beaufort family, which has been producing wine in Champagne for several generations.
It all started in 1933 with André Beaufort. In the late 1960s, André and his son Jacques decided to abandon synthetic pesticides due to allergy problems. In 1971, Beaufort became one of the first wine producers to obtain organic certification. Today, it is Jacques and three of his eight children who run the winery.Vineyards
The Beaufort family vineyards are located in the heart of Champagne, close to cities such as Reims, Epernay and Chalons sur Marne. These vineyards are located on a calcareous soil, a crucial element in the production of Champagne. This type of soil is very favourable to produce a great wine, classified as Grand Cru. The vineyard is planted mostly with Pinot Noir and the rest with Chardonnay, achieving a perfect balance between taste sensations and floral aromas.
Philosophy
Since 1969, the Ambonnay vineyards have been cultivated agro-biologically, without the use of any non-natural adjuvant products. The soil of the vineyard is only ploughed superficially to limit the growth of weeds without damaging the roots of the vines. Harvesting takes place 60 days after flowering in early summer. The grapes are pressed within a maximum of 12 hours and the resulting wines are decanted twice. After alcoholic fermentation, malolactic fermentation is allowed, which gives the wines suppleness and softness without acidity.
Beaufort's philosophy also extends to experimenting with homeopathy and aromatherapy to combat fungal diseases, thus minimising the use of copper and sulphur. Jacques Beaufort has mentioned that he himself makes mixtures and dilutions of plants and essential oils.
