The NV Único Reserva Especial 2025 Release was produced with a blend of wines from 2011, 2012 and 2013, with 14% alcohol, a pH of 3.86 and five grams of acidity. It has the core of the 2012, possibly the higher percentage in the blend too, which gives the power and structure with the freshness and tension of 2013, which also provides some balsamic characteristics, and less of the 2011. It has a very harmonious and subtle nose, and the wine shows extra complexity and elegance. It has the Único nose with more nuance and subtleness, but what I liked the most was the silky texture and the elegance of the tannins, as usual combining more developed characteristics with elegance and freshness. This is another stellar release of their non-vintage classical blend, slowly going back to the style of yesteryear. A total of 18,518 bottles and 261 magnums were produced. It was bottled in May 2021.

Description
Founded in 1864, Vega Sicilia is synonymous with history, patience and perfection. But among all its creations, there is one jewel that escapes the calendar: Vega Sicilia Único Reserva Especial. It is not a vintage wine, but a declaration of principles. It is made from a careful blend of the best vintages of "Único", selected not for their individual potency, but for the harmony they achieve together.
A bold decision in a vintage-driven world, this wine is born of a desire to capture the timeless soul of Vega Sicilia Único Reserva Especial.
The grapes - mostly Tempranillo, with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon -come from old vines in the Ribera del Duero DO, planted on poor soils of gravel, sand and limestone, at high altitude. The extreme climate - dry summers, harsh winters, strong temperature fluctuations - forces the vines to struggle, and in that struggle they find their greatness.
Winemaking
Each vintage of Único used in Vega Sicilia Único Reserva Especial has aged between 10 and 15 years in a combination of new and used French and American oak barrels and large wooden vats. There are no fixed formulas: the wine is only composed when the balance between vintages is perfect.
After a long and precise ageing process, the wine is bottled without aggressive fining, preserving all its personality. The result is a wine that transcends time, bottled under a year of release, not a vintage.
Taste
On the nose, the Vega Sicilia Único Reserva Especial is at first reserved, almost like a wine that demands respect. But with patience and air, it unfolds a hypnotic aromatic range: aged leather, sweet spices, blond tobacco, beeswax and black fruit in liqueur. Notes of damp earth, dried mushrooms, black truffle and a delicate balsamic breeze reminiscent of the forest in autumn emerge.
On the palate, Vega Sicilia Único Reserva Especial offers a serene entry, with a perfectly integrated acidity that guides the wine with elegance and precision. The tannins are very fine, polished like old velvet, supporting a noble, weightless structure. Flavours range from black liquorice and ground coffee, accompanied by layers of candied black cherry, ripe plum and dried figs. All of this is wrapped in a minerality that hints of hot stone, graphite and dry earth from the Douro. There are echoes of bitter cocoa, exotic woods and subtle smoky touches.
The finish is almost spiritual, very long, like a conversation that you don't want to end. It leaves a trail of dried black fruit, soft spices, elegant smoke and a freshness that belies its age. A wine for contemplation, which rewards calm, sensitivity and silence. A timeless classic, without concessions to fashion, embodying the best of the Douro and Spain's wine history.
