Showing the power and the contoured definition that is typical of Serralunga d'Alba, the Gaja 2020 Barolo Sperss is a wine of greater brawn and intensity. Yet its power remains elegantly in line with the character of the vintage that is ultimately more subdued compared to 2019 or the upcoming 2021. It offers a complete photograph of its territory with rusty ferrous notes, orange peel, dark fruit and licorice. There is a fun end note of dark Amarena cherry to conclude. That hint of sweetness ties into elegantly chalky tannins.

Gaja Sperss, this wine is one of the most renowned and prestigious labels, not only of Angelo Gaja's winery, but of the entire appellation. It has always been a symbol of class and elegance. The Barolo "Sperss" has built its myth thanks to the grapes of the most sought-after cru of Serralunga d'Alba and to vinification and ageing processes that bring out the best qualities of Nebbiolo. The dedication and passion to achieve the highest quality have elevated this wine to the rank of Langhe's greatest reds.
Winemaking
The grapes come from the Marenca and Rivette vineyards in Serralunga d'Alba, grown on clay-limestone loam soils. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks and the wine matures for 12 months in French oak barrels and a further 12 months in oak foudres.

Gaja Sperss is an iconic wine of the Langhe region, reserved for connoisseurs and lovers of high quality wines. It has a deep garnet red colour. Its olfactory profile is multifaceted, with aromas of forest fruits, floral nuances of violet, delicate spicy notes, sensations of undergrowth, humus and leather. The palate is deep, long and complex. It unfolds harmoniously over a dense and elegant tannic texture, leading the palate towards a persistent and fresh finish.
