The stony and mineral 2023 Finca O Pereiro comes from a plot that was planted in 2004 on clay soils that usually give it more weight on the palate, but this year I find it to be very streamlined, austere and mineral, very tasty, almost salty. It fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts—like all the wines here—and halfway through the fermentation, it was transferred to oak foudre where it matured for nine months. It has 13% alcohol and a pH of 3.24, keeping 6.1 grams of acidity. It is complex, deep and harmonious, with clout and elegance and a vibrant and salty mouthfeel. 6,666 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2024.

Description

Albamar Finca O Pereiro is an Albariño from the Rías Baixas DO, produced in the Albamar winery, led by Xurxo Alba Padín. Albamar is a family winery with a philosophy of respect for the environment and Atlantic viticulture. The vineyards are located a few metres from the sea, in the valley of O Salnés, with clay soils that give the wine a remarkable structure and minerality. The Finca O Pereiro vineyard covers an area of 7,000 square metres and is located at the mouth of the Umia River, within the Ons-O Grove intertidal ecosystem. All cultivation is organic and environmentally friendly, with manual harvesting to ensure optimal grape selection.

Winemaking

As for the winemaking process of Albamar Finca O Pereiro, the wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks using indigenous yeasts, which preserves the authenticity of its origin. At mid-fermentation, the must is transferred to oak vats where the wine is aged for approximately eight months. This controlled and meticulous approach allows the wine to develop aromatic and gustatory complexity, while maintaining its freshness and depth. The result is a balanced wine, with an outstanding acidity of 6.1 grams and a pH of 3.24, which faithfully reflects the Atlantic character of the winery and its environment.

Taste

Albamar Finca O Pereiro is characterised by its marked minerality and elegant freshness. On the nose, it presents aromas reminiscent of fresh fruit, such as green pear, kiwi and subtle citrus notes of lime and lemon. These aromas mingle with delicate notes of saltiness and hints of mint and eucalyptus, evoking the maritime environment in which it is produced. In the mouth, it is an intense and balanced wine, with an enveloping entry and a vibrant acidity that gives it vivacity. Its finish is long and persistent, leaving a mineral and fresh aftertaste, ideal for pairing with seafood and Galician dishes, such as rice and oily fish.
