Description
Thymiopoulos Naoussa Alta comes from the prestigious Naoussa wine region. This red wine belongs to the P.D.O. Naoussa category and is a reflection of Thymiopoulos Vineyards' commitment to quality and tradition.
The wine is made from 100% Xinomavro, an indigenous Greek variety that is known for its ability to produce red wines of great character and complexity. The grapes come from several plots around the village of Fytia, with 26 year old vines that are not irrigated and are certified organic. These vineyards are located at an altitude of between 450 and 650 metres, on soils composed mainly of schist and granite. The Naoussa region is characterised by a warm continental climate, which is moderated by cool winds from both the Vermio mountain and the sea. These climatic conditions, together with the low temperatures associated with the high altitude and the large diurnal variation during the ripening season, confer freshness and elegance to the wines.
Winemaking
Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts and can last from 1 to 3 months, of which 18 days macerate with the skins and a small percentage of whole bunches. The wine then matures for 8 months in French oak vats.
Taste
Thymiopoulos Naoussa Alta is a wine that combines the power and structure of Xinomavro with the elegance and subtlety conferred by its winemaking and ageing process. On the nose, we find aromas of dried tomato, red berries, rose and plum. Its flavour is reminiscent of Nebbiolo, being smooth, but with notable tannins and good acidity. Undoubtedly, it is a wine that any wine lover would dream of tasting.
