Description
In a small forgotten plot of land in Baix Penedès, where vines grew wild among scrub and dry stone, Massimo Marchiori and Antonella Gerosa - tireless souls behind Partida Creus -saw an opportunity where others only saw abandonment. That Macabeu vineyard, which nobody else wanted to know about, was rescued by this Italian-Catalan duo who have been defying market logic for years in pursuit of a sincere, radical viticulture that is deeply committed to the land.
Partida Creus MC Macabeu is made from organic grapes grown without chemical intervention and harvested by hand, under the Mediterranean sun and the sea breeze that caresses the region's chalky soils. This orange wine - an absolute rarity of its kind - is tangible proof of Partida Creus's commitment to indigenous varieties, minimal intervention and total purity.
Winemaking
The grapes were harvested by hand, selecting bunches of grapes at the right moment of ripeness. The grapes were destemmed and gently pressed before coming into contact with their skins during a 10-day maceration, which gives the wine that deep golden colour and structure so particular to orange wines. Fermentation was carried out exclusively with indigenous yeasts, respecting the natural rhythms of the must, without corrections or additives. The wine was bottled without fining, without filtering and, true to the Partida Creus style, without adding sulphur at any time. Each bottle is a living, changing, honest and direct being.
Taste
Partida Creus MC Macabeu is a wine that cannot be tamed. When it opens, the first impression is almost ethereal: a note of orange blossom mixed with a spicy touch of clove and fresh ginger. There is no obvious fruity sweetness; instead, a dry, dusty minerality reminiscent of wet chalk and stone in the sun. The palate is firm, with a tactile, almost grainy texture that combines tension and volume. The tannin of the leather is crisp but perfectly integrated, supporting a long, spicy finish, with hints of black tea, candied orange peel and a slight balsamic bitterness that invites further drinking.
