A single-vineyard varietal Hondarribi Zuri from very poor soils, the 2019 Iri is a more austere, vertical and concentrated wine that, unfortunately, shows a gray color and an oxidative nose that is not reminiscent of other bottles I've drunk and enjoyed. It comes from vines planted in 2009 on sandstone and lutite soils that yield 3,000 kilos per hectare (yields can be humongous here), fermented with their own yeasts and matured with the lees and with partial malolactic. They never added any sulfur during the whole process. I think this bottle was off, so judgment is deferred. 2,000 bottles were filled in February 2020.
