The 2021 La Diva was bottled quite early, in August 2022. This single-vineyard bottling comes from a plot of 0.35 hectares of ungrafted vines on northeast-facing terraces on sand and limestone soils protected by dry stone walls. It's mostly Tempranillo with some 8% white Albillo grapes that fermented with 30% full clusters in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts with 55 days of maceration, malolactic in tank and matured in two used 228-liter French oak barrels for nine months. It has 14.14% alcohol and a pH of 3.77, and against all odds, the wine is paler, more ethereal, elegant and subtler than the 2020 despite the analytical parameters. It seems like the long maceration works best with a shorter élevage, and here, the wine is magnificent—clean, fine, precise and elegant, still a bit young but with the balance, freshness and stuffing for a very good development in bottle. This has to be one of the finest vintages for this incredible wine. Only 544 bottles were filled the 18th of August 2022.

Dominio de Es La Diva was born in the Soria area of Valdegatiles, in Atauta, at 950 m above sea level, where Bertrand Sourdais -a reference in the finest and most athletic Ribera del Duero- found a jewel: a pre-phylloxera vineyard of barely 0.3 ha, goblet-grown, with Tinto Fino and Albillo vines on soils of pure sand and limestone. Protected by ancient stone walls and exposed to the northeast, this enclave develops an almost mystical character. The result is an exclusive wine, which does not follow the rules, but defies them: minimum production (600 bottles), biodynamic cultivation, and a desire to express the naked soul of the Soria terroir.

Winemaking

The Dominio de Es La Diva grapes are harvested by hand and selectively. The grapes are completely destemmed without crushing, in order to preserve the finest varietal profile. It ferments for 15 days, with temperatures between 15 and 30 °C, and a daily "bucket irrigation" technique for 11 days that allows a controlled and slow extraction. Ageing takes place in only two used barrels, with a minimalist approach that prioritises the expression of the vineyard. No aggressive filtering, just time and silence.

Taste

In the glass, Dominio de Es La Diva reveals a deep cherry red, garnet rim. The nose is restrained, austere and elegant: wild black fruit, wet stone, a touch of graphite, dried herbs and fine smoke. On the palate, the entry is fresh, with taut, polished tannins, vibrant acidity, and a gritty texture reminiscent of its origin. Notes of black cherry, blueberry and a delicate echo of bitter cocoa accompany the long, mineral and dry finish. It is a wine for cellaring, which does not seek to please immediately, but demands attention and time. A Altura red wine, for those who understand that elegance comes from restraint.
