Description
Arzuaga Reserva is a wine from Ribera del Duero, made mainly from grapes from old vines. The blend is composed of 96% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), 3% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Merlot. These vineyards, which are located in the provinces of Burgos and Valladolid, provide a combination of structure and freshness to the wine. The soils on which the vines grow are clay-limestone, with the limestone bedrock located at a depth of less than one metre, which contributes to the wine's uniqueness. The vines, located at an altitude of 900 metres, enjoy a continental climate, which ensures balanced ripening.
Winemaking
Harvesting is carried out manually, selecting the grapes in boxes of no more than 15 kg to preserve their integrity. Each parcel is vinified separately, starting with a pre-fermentative maceration at low temperature to extract aromas and colour from the skins. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out at controlled temperatures (around 28ºC), followed by malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels. The wine is aged for 26 to 27 months in new French oak barrels, which gives it a complex and refined character.
Taste
Arzuaga Reserva stands out for its complex and elegant aromatic profile. The nose is dominated by aromas of black fruits such as plum and blackcurrant, with hints of cocoa, tobacco and toast from its ageing in barrels. On the palate, it is an enveloping wine, with a great unctuousness and a sweet and silky tannin that gives it a remarkable structure. The finish is long and persistent, with well-integrated tertiary flavours that continue to evolve in the glass. It is a perfect wine to accompany red meats, game or even mild cheeses, highlighting its gastronomic versatility.
