Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2022 Malvasía (Riojana) is a varietal white from a very dry year and the warmest they can remember. It fermented in French oak barrels, where the wine matured with fine lees and periodic bâtonnage for five months. All the white varietal bottlings are very young, and at that early age, they are not easy to read, as they have a clean and elegant profile and are not super showy or aromatic. Even the Malvasía, which is completely unrelated to the aromatic Malvasía varieties from the Mediterranean (it's the more neutral Alarije or Subirat Parent), is subtle and a little shy. But it has floral nuances of white flowers, some white fruit and herbs. The palate is velvety and soft, with clean flavors and a long, dry finish. It has 14% alcohol, a pH of 3.26 and moderate acidity (5.17 grams). 3,416 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2023.

Description
The first single varietal of the San Vicente de la Sonsierra winery was the Abel Mendoza Malvasía wine. Many of its grapes come from old vines, more than 50 years old, which are planted in clay-limestone soils with little organic matter, one of the reasons why this wine is so exquisite!
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand, collecting the Malvasia grapes in small boxes and picking the berries by hand. During 4-5 months, the wine ferments in French oak barrels with its lees.
This Rioja white wine is bottled and marketed after a maturation period of three months.
Taste
Smooth and delicate in the mouth, with a balanced and complex palate that reveals a wonderful blend of ripeness and freshness with the passage of time. A white wine that evolves slowly and improves in the bottle over time.
This freshness that the Abel Mendoza Malvasía wine presents is produced through a well-integrated acidity. In addition, despite having fermented in oak, it lacks oak odors, which makes it a real wild card at the table.
A very traditional wine
Abel Mendoza Malvasía is a wine that revives one of the classic varietals of La Rioja, which had been on the verge of disappearing due to its sensitivity to botrytis and the irregularity of its production. It is essential not to confuse Malvasía Riojana with the aromatic Malvasías, as they do not even belong to the same family. Malvasía Riojana is the local name for the grape known as Subirat Parent in Catalonia and Alarije in Extremadura.
