Buy Wine from Tayaimgut
Tayaimgut is the curious name of a small winery in Alt Penedés led by Jaume Bertrán. The winery is located in one of the northernmost parts of the region, Sant Joan de Mediona, at the foothills of the Montserrat mountains; situated at an altitude between 400 and 700 meters above sea level, the Tayaimgut estates benefit from a more continental climate, with more rainfall than others in the same D.O. Penedés, as well as more contrasts in temperature between day and night.
Tayaimgut was founded in 2000 with only two plots: Esquarterades planted with Sauvignon Blanc and Hort de les Canyes planted with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. All the phases are carried out manually by Jaume Bertrán's own conviction, from harvesting to labeling; in Jaume's own words: "the humanity of non-mechanized work is a very important part in obtaining the perfect ripeness of the grapes, key to the quality of the wines".
Tayaimgut produces four wines: Tayaimgut Sauvignon Blanc is the winery's real beast, the benchmark of Spanish Sauvignon Blanc, with a breed similar to the wines made with this grape by Dagueneau in Sancerre; Tayaimgut Rosat de Llàgrima is a wine made with Merlot, with a low layer, good acidity and that again looks more to France than to Spain in its elaboration; Tayaimgut Negre Jove is the result of a coupage of Merlot and Garnacha without any aging; and finally Tayaimgut Negre, made with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, structured and aged in barrels.
The production of Tayaimgut is around 10,000 bottles per year.
