Description
Vinya La Calma is a white wine that comes from the white calcareous soils, rich in marine fossils of the Garraf Massif. This wine is a pure representation of the Chenin Blanc variety.
Carlos Esteva was a pioneer in introducing Chenin Blanc in the Penedès, and Can Ràfols dels Caus is one of the few wineries in Spain to cultivate this variety of French origin from the Loire.
La Calma is a testament to this boldness and tradition, being acclaimed by many as one of the best whites. Its location in the coastal massif, Garraf, allows the Chenin vines to receive the warmth of the sun during the day and the sea breeze that gives it that characteristic salinity. Undoubtedly, it is a wine to be enjoyed calmly, very calmly, reflecting its unique personality and the great work of the winery.
Winemaking
The winemaking process begins with a gentle pressing without skidding (whole grape harvest with stems). 80% of the wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks, while the remaining 20% is fermented in French oak barrels, both new and second year. After this process, the wine is aged on the lees for 6 months. But the ageing does not end there, as it then spends 24 months in the bottle, perfecting its flavour and character.
Taste
Vinya La Calma is a golden yellow wine with greenish reflections. On the nose, it is intensely aromatic, revealing notes of peach, passion fruit, smoke and mineral hints. On the palate, it is fresh and unctuous, highlighting flavours of fleshy white fruit, with a saline touch and a creamy texture that lingers on the palate for a long time.
