2019 was a warm and dry year, but the 2019 Alonso del Yerro managed to keep the poise and elegance and feels balanced, with the oak neatly integrated and the alcoholic degree very similar to the 2018 (which I tasted next to it). But the quality of the tannins is not the same—there's a little more rusticity and earthiness here, more concentration and a more powerful mouthfeel. The wine is serious and shows no excess. They had to harvest earlier, and the yields were lower. 55,000 bottles and 1,500 magnums produced. It was bottled in July 2021.

Description
Alonso del Yerro is an emblematic red wine from Ribera del Duero, a reflection of the dedication and passion of Javier Alonso and María del Yerro, who in 2002 joined their surnames to give life to a family project with soul and character. This wine, made entirely from Tempranillo (100%), is grown on the Santa Marta estate and other outstanding plots at an altitude of over 800 metres, where the diversity of calcareous soils, from red clay to gravelly sand, lends complexity and unique nuances.
Winemaking
The vineyards, which date back to 1989, are worked with a meticulous approach, avoiding herbicides and applying natural composting techniques and cover crops to respect the ecosystem as much as possible. Vinification is careful and slow, with a maceration of between 8 and 15 days to obtain the most subtle tannins, followed by ageing for 12 months in French oak barrels (10% new), guaranteeing elegance and balance.
Taste
Alonso del Yerro seduces with a deep red colour and an intense nose, where notes of ripe red fruits such as plum and blueberry stand out, together with subtle hints of liquorice and spices. On the palate, it is an elegant and rounded wine, with silky tannins that caress the palate, providing structure without losing its fruity character. The finish is persistent, enveloping and with a complexity that evolves notably in the bottle, making it an exceptional choice to accompany juicy meats, cured cheeses and spoon dishes.
