2020 was a cooler year with more rain, following the path of years like 2016 and 2018. The 2020 Selección Especial, produced with 70% Tempranillo, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Syrah, 4% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, is harmonious and moderately ripe at 14% alcohol, with nice balancing freshness. It matured for 12 months in French and American oak (35%) barrels, one-third of them new. They harvested it before it rained, and the wine has more herbal aromas and feels a little more Bordelais, balsamic, even minty. The oak is neatly integrated and folded into the fruit. 474,626 bottles produced. There are multiple lots of this wine.

Description
Abadía Retuerta Selección Especial is an emblematic wine that represents the essence of the Valladolid winery Abadía Retuerta. This wine is a harmonious blend of different grape varieties, being Tempranillo the protagonist with 64%, followed by Cabernet Sauvignon with 15%, Syrah with 14%, Merlot with 6% and Petit Verdot with 1%. The combination of these varieties brings a unique richness and complexity to the wine.
Winemaking
The production of Abadía Retuerta Selección Especial begins with a careful selection of the best grapes from each of the estate's vineyards. Fermentation takes place in small stainless steel tanks, where malolactic fermentation also takes place. This process contributes to the smoothness and roundness of the wine. Ageing is carried out for 12 months in French and American oak barrels, which adds woody notes and complexity to the wine's profile.
Taste
Abadía Retuerta Selección Especial stands out for its cherry red colour with purple edges, intense and bright. On the nose, it is aromatically complex, with a great presence of red fruits such as wild strawberry, plum and blackberry, accompanied by perfumed floral and spicy notes, and a balsamic touch. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and flavoursome, with an elegant passage. The tannins are fine, soft and enveloping, contributing to a long and pleasant palate. This wine is ideal to accompany dishes such as roast beef, sirloin steak with foie, Iberian cold meats, stews or cured cheeses.
