The 2018 Colección Torremilanos is a traditional red with a long aging in barrel in a 'gran reserva' style produced only in certain years—the previous one was 2016, and the next one will be 2020. It was produced with ripe grapes—92% Tempranillo and the rest Garnacha, Albillo and other local grapes—from 60+-year-old vines and achieved 15% alcohol after fermenting in stainless steel and concrete. It matured in barrel for 34 months, but they used less new oak than in previous vintages (and it shows in the wine). It still has some aromatics from the élevage (spice, smoky and a toasty twist...) and a touch of volatility that lifts up the nose. The 2018s in general feel quite ripe, and despite having mentioned the oak, this feels a lot less oaky than the 2016 I tasted last time but still has a more traditional profile than the rest of the range. 4,088 bottles were filled in July 2021.
